This is an old family recipe. I have no idea where it came from.
Spare Ribs, Cabbage 'n Kraut
3-4 lbs. lean spare ribs or pork chops or pork roast
salt and pepper
1 small can sauerkraut
1/2 small head cabbage, thinly sliced
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 apple, quartered
1 t. caraway seeds
1 t. salt
1 c. water
Brown meat in a skillet, sprinkle with the salt and pepper. Layer in a crock pot- meat, sauerkraut, cabbage, onion and apple. Sprinkle with caraway seeds and salt. Add water around the edges. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 6-8 hours.
Options: May use all sauerkraut or all cabbage, as desired.
Options: May sprinkle brown sugar over the top.
